Eagleclaw Futsal is a fun, fast-paced training program designed to complement a youth soccer player's training by accelerating their development in three crucial areas:

  1. Technical skill;

  2. Spatial awareness

  3. Decision-making.

Futsal is one of the best ways of developing young footballers, particularly for a possession style of play.  (Read more about that here).  It provides the perfect small-sided environment for explosively and exponentially increasing a players abilities across multiple dimensions.

Futsal is a brilliant, 5v5 soccer game that originated in South America and spread quickly to Europe.  Played indoors on a hard court surface, futsal is a five-a-side game where technique, craftiness and speedy decision-making matters.  The futsal ball is different than a regular soccer ball.  It is a low bounce ball that forces players to play the ball on the ground more than in the air.  Players often face 1v1 situations in tight spaces and need to use all their abilities to help their team keep the ball.  The emphasis on possession helps players develop great passing skill and vision that translates directly to outdoor soccer. All the best players in the world began as kids playing futsal, such as Pele, Ronaldo, Messi, Kaka, Iniesta and  Xavi.

Eagleclaw Futsal's curriculum is deeply influenced by Spanish futsal training, or futbol sala as it is called in Spain.  Each session begins with some free play followed by about 15-20 minutes of training aimed at developing fundamental techniques critical to the game, including controlling the ball with the sole of the foot, quick passing, spatial awareness and smart movement. Everything is done with the ball and usually through Spanish rondo-based exercises and small-sided games. The next 30 minutes involve a variety of small sided games and 5v5 scrimmages in which official futsal rules are enforced.  These games are designed to use the natural constraints of futsal to accelerate development and get kids playing and using their newly learned skills and tactics in the most beneficial way. In this way, we are able to create a learning environment that is fun for the kids and allows them to learn the game by playing the game.

Eagleclaw Futsal instructors are experienced Eagleclaw coaches with years of experience coaching and playing futsal.  Each instructor has earned the Level 1 Futsal Diploma from the United Soccer Coaches Association (formerly the National Soccer Coaches Association of America).

Futsal Shoes

Futsal players need futsal shoes, NOT turf shoes.  Futsal is played on a hard surface like a basketball court.  This means futsal players need a shoe that can provide traction and stability on a hard, smooth playing surface.  Futsal shoes typically have a gum rubber flat outsole and a flat, stiff sole.  There should not be any "teeth" or studs on the sole.  It should be flat.  They need to be lightweight and flexible to adjust to the sudden stops and quick turns made on a futsal pitch. "Turf Shoes" are NOT Futsal shoes.   Eagleclaw recommends PUMA futsal shoes, like the amazing PUMA King IT shoes shown above, but any brand of futsal shoes is allowed.  Below is a helpful guide, courtesy of Athlete Audit.
