Director of Coaching
Matthew Olson
Matthew Olson is the Director of Coaching for Eagleclaw Football Academy. In that role, he is responsible for to developing and improving Eagleclaw coaches so that players maximize their potential at all ages. He also works closely with the Executive Director to ensure that all Eagleclaw coaches are educated in the club's philosophy, game model and training methods. In addition, he also manages participation of the club's teams in the Washington Premier League (WPL).
He has 30 years of soccer experience including playing professionally at the highest levels, winning a collegiate national championship as player, coaching championship winning college and youth teams, and developing hundreds of youth players of all ages and abilities over the past two decades.
Eagleclaw’s Spanish-inspired playing and development philosophy is based in part on the "Total Football" philosophy of one of the most famous youth soccer academies in the world, the Ajax Amsterdam Academy. Matthew Olson personally and exclusively trained with with Ajax Amsterdam’s professional team, which at that time was on its way to becoming the best club team in the world. During his time with Ajax, and ever since, Matthew immersed himself in their unique training methods and highly respected youth development program.
Matthew also worked personally with Coerver skills trainer Jan Janssen, who was among the first coaches trained by the legendary Weil Coerver. Matthew also trained with Frans Hoek, Holland’s and Ajax Amsterdam’s legendary goalkeeping coach and current assistant coach at Manchester United.

He also played professionally in England, Holland and Sweden, as well as in the US with D.C. United, with whom he won the MLS Cup Championship. Prior to his professional career Matthew won the NCAA Division I Men’s National Championship with Indiana University and played on the US National ‘B’ team.
Matthew currently works as an educational instructor with the NSCAA and US Soccer as well with Major League Soccer as a professional match evaluator. He is also a staff coach and Goalkeeper Director with the Washington Premier League's Surf Academy.
