SOCCER BACKGROUND
Matthew Olson serves as the Director of Coaching for Eagleclaw FC and Valencia CF Academy – Seattle, providing leadership across coach development, player pathways, and the implementation of the club’s game model and training methodology.
A native of Renton, Washington and graduate of Lindbergh High School, Matthew brings more than 30 years of experience in the game as a player, coach, educator, and evaluator. He holds a US Soccer A License and has worked extensively at the professional, collegiate, and youth levels.

Matthew has served as a Director within the Valencia CF Academy – Seattle structure since 2018 and has traveled to Valencia, Spain on multiple occasions to participate in Valencia CF High School Monitoring Weeks and the Valencia CF U12 World Cup, held annually each June. He has also taken part in numerous Valencia CF–led workshops and educational sessions, helping ensure that the club’s daily training environment in Seattle remains aligned with Valencia CF’s philosophy and methodology.
As a player, Matthew won the NCAA Division I National Championship with Indiana University, earned an ACC Championship with Wake Forest University, represented the U.S. National ‘B’ Team, and won the MLS Cup with D.C. United. His professional career also included training and competition in England, the Netherlands, and Sweden.
In his role as Director of Coaching, Matthew is responsible for coach education and mentorship, alignment with the club’s philosophy and game model, and oversight of competitive league participation including the Washington Premier League (WPL). His leadership emphasizes clarity, accountability, and long-term player development.
