Rondo Foundations
The Key To Talent Development
For Boys & Girls Age 6-13
“Everything that goes on in a match, except shooting, you can do in a rondo. The competitive aspect, fighting to make space, what to do when in possession and what to do when you haven’t got the ball, how to play ‘one touch’ soccer, how to counteract the tight marking and how to win the ball back.”
-- Johan Cruyff
Rondo Foundations is the ideal clinic program for young players who really want to improve their level of skill receiving, passing, moving without the ball and overall game intelligence. This program is open to all players, meaning Eagleclaw players as well as players from other clubs or programs. Its the perfect way to complement your regular club training work by adding an additional day of high-quality training. This is extra work, but its critical work.
New to Eagleclaw? Or maybe you belong to another club? Rondo Foundations will help you accelerate your development by drilling down on the basic skills you need to improve upon to become a better player: first touch, receiving technique, speed of passing/receiving, spatial awareness and supporting movement.
Are you an Eagleclaw veteran? Rondo Foundations will give you the extra high-quality group training you need to sharpen your technique, speed of passing and reactions in order to make you a stronger rondo player.
Each session, talented Eagleclaw coaches will teach players through a progression of rondo games, beginning with the crucial 4v1, the dynamic 3v1, the classic 4v4(+3), then onto a variety of directional and non-directional rondos with more players involved that simulate what a modern possession football team experiences in a real game. Along the way, our coaches will spot those ability areas that need strengthening, such as receiving technique, passing technique, body positioning and more. We will make you a better player. BECOMING A "RONDO PLAYER"
Rondos - its the secret to Eagleclaw's success in developing skillful, intelligent players. What is a rondo? Well, the most basic definition of a rondo is a game where one group of players has the ball and numerical superiority (3v1, 4v1, 5v2, etc.) over another group of players. The team with numerical superiority works to keep possession, while the outnumbered team work to defend and win back the ball. But that is just the beginning.
At Eagleclaw, we use a variety of differently structured rondo games to simulate actual game situations and train our players in possession style known as Positional Play. When we talk about actual game situations, we mean it. We see the game as a series of moments where one team has the ball and tries to achieve numerical and positional superiority over the other team. This kind of training is so effective because it is based on cognitive fidelity, meaning it faithfully represents the mental demands and challenges players will face in an actual football game. Rondo-based training develops quick decision making under pressure, movement without the ball, anticipation, execution, team work and spatial orientation.
A "rondo player" is a top footballer. They have superior passing and receiving skills. They have eagle-eye vision. They play the ball quickly and precisely. They are smart. They know how to find space for themselves and how to find teammates in space. They quickly recognize situations and how to achieve numerical or positional superiority. They are bulldog defenders, working aggressively and intelligently with their team mates in situations where they are outnumbered. Rondo players are the modern footballers for the modern game. But it takes discipline, work and hours of training.
